Best knives in the price range August 21, 2010 Michelle Somers (Portland, ME) I have owned these knives for about 5 years now and they are still going strong. They have been through many careless roommates who mistreated them and only show minor battle scars. They are perfect for the everyday cook, maybe not fancy enough for the chef. They have a great weight and feel good in your hand, and they cut wonderfully. My favorites are the serrated utility knife and the 4" santoku, though I have used every knife for one thing or another. Mine has a plastic block, not wood like this one, but it has actually stood up well. If you are looking for a set under a hundred bucks, I highly recommend this one.
One note, the steak knives have a very thin blade, and the battle scars I speak of are mostly tiny bends or nicks (the kind you can't see but can feel) at the tip of the steak knives. This only happens if they are mistreated which is surprising to me because they seem flimsy. They aren't. Also they are 5 years old and the most used of all the knives, so I am impressed nonetheless.
Good Value - Great Knives July 31, 2010 J. N. McCarthy (Centennial, CO) Knives arrived quickly and were more than I expected. The knives functioned as other reviewers stated. Very sharp and easy to keep sharp. Also appreciated empty slots to add other knives and scizzors. Great buy and very affordable alternative to German or Japanese products. Consumer reviews stated it was right up there in function with other knife sets up to three times as expensive.
Sharp Set of Knives July 16, 2010 Arlene (San Gabriel, CA) I received a set of OXO knives 9 yrs ago when I got married. The set did not include steak knives but lasted and served me well. I was looking to replace a few of the knives when I came across this deal for a whole NEW set including steak knives for a fraction of the price! I couldn't pass it up and I'm glad I didn't. These new knives are far superior to the older generation OXO set. They're a little heavier and yet perfect for everyday use. They are attractive and the block has room to add my favorite OXO kitchen shears. I'm so happy with the purchase!
Great value July 15, 2010 K. Klotz (punta gorda , fl) I needed a new knife set beacause my original Oxo set was destroyed in a home accident that destroyed my kitchen. First I purchased an inexspensive Chicago set and it was worthless, but very cheap. Then before I bought another set I read various reviews online about knives and decided that since I like low maintaince, and I never had a problem with this Oxo set, I would buy it again. I forgot how good it was! I am going to add a large suduko knife. I'm sure other sets are better, but whay pay 4x more unless you need it?
OK. June 29, 2010 Richard A. Moore 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
You get what you pay for when it comes to steel. That said, these knives are ok for the price. The steak knives are too thin to sharpen easily, and I will use a butter knife with about the same effect. The grips are all that black rubbery-sticky kind of material, I'm not really a fan of those either. When I have money to spend on some real knives, I will pass these on to someone less fortunate.
