I like how the blade doesn't touch the contents of the can and the lid is not sharp afterwards as it is a clean cut from the side instead of in the top. Love it.

I decided to check an electric can opener online since we'd been using a hand-held
one for at least five years. The different electric can openers drove me CRAZY when the cans quit opening and we decided to open cans by hand until the computer JUMPED OUT at me and the dear Lord brought me to your Hamilton Beach 76606 electric can opener and I saw it with my own eyes! Since I started using it, I was just amazed on how it opened the cans when I didn't believe it would work. The first time, I was confused as to how it worked and I didn't think the can opened. But once I realized how very easy it was to cut open the cans, I was thrilled! It's so great at how the can is opened with no sharp edges. I did have to hold the can as it opened, but as how I had to deal with my manual can opener, this was heaven! I am sure that we will enjoy it for years to come!

After using this side opening device, I will never go back to a traditional opener again. There is no lid with a sharp edge when this is through cutting the top off.
I had an earlier version of this opener and used it for several years, so when it finally wore out, I was glad to find this one on Amazon. Also, this new model in black and steel is very sleek and clean looking.

In addition to all the other things people have said, about how well it cuts, how clean it operates, one thing I really liked was that the electrical cord can be pulled out or pushed in so you have only just how much cord you need to reach the socket. It's not a fixed length like the rest, so you can position it just right without all the extra cord having to be twisty tied up behind it.
Works great, solid construction, well worth it. I was very happy to remove my previous opener... Got tired of cleaning pizza sauce off the blade :)
