Not made like they used to be July 21, 2010 Maitland I bought this unit to replace my last spacemaker that stopped working after about 2 years. It does look sleeker, I like the green night-light shining down on the counter, and although I placed it in a different spot than my old one, I did not have any problem with the template enclosed with the directions. That said, however, I couldn't imagine why they didn't have the clock illuminated like the old one used to be- its effectively useless unless you are right in front of it and plan to set the timer. Then come to find out that the clock doesn't keep time, so I guess that explains it- I wouldn't want the wrong time broadcast across my kitchen! It makes coffee, and it fits under my counter, which of course are the two most important aspects of an under-the-counter coffee maker, so I won't bother to return the unit to see if the clock defect is common or not.
GREAT! July 17, 2010 S. Phillips (Alabama) We had a spacemaker coffee pot for over 20 years. Broke the pot early on but substituted another and kept right on using it until we remodeled our kitchen. After using other coffeemakers including an expensive KRUPS, we decided to buy another spacemaker.
We could not be more pleased! It works great, looks good and we anticipate using it many years.
Now, forget about the holes matching the previous coffeemaker holes: that is just not correct.
This thing is a PTA to install but once in, it is not going anywhere. There is slight problem with the balance of the actual pot: the large handle sticks out quite a bit so that the pot feels heavy. It is actually no heavier than any other 12 cup coffee pot but the extra 4 inches of handle makes it just a little awkward to hold.
Other reviewers have talked about the difficulty in filling and spilling water from the reserviour but we find that no problem and in fact have spill no water. We constantly complained about the difficulty in pouring water into the small orifice of the KRUPS reserviour. Also, the Krups pot had a strange spout that always dripped under the stream of coffee while pouring.
Overall we are happy with the Spacemaker and will purchase again when this one dies, hopefully 20 years from now!
B J July 14, 2010 screw you I don't like the water tank because it is hard to judge when it is full and it is easy to slop water on the floor. Other than that the unit is fine and delivery was prompt.
needs 2 peiple to install it June 12, 2010 Norma J. Taylor (BRAMAN,OKLAHOMA) i really like the coffee pot.....it also makes great coffee. looks so sleek and modern it is a real upgrade from my old black an decker which was at least 15/16 yrs old when it finally bit the dust.
i have 1 complaint and that is installation. it would be so wonderful if black an decker would standardize the hole pattern so when you take down an old pot that no longer works,,,you could so very easily put the new one rite in the same holes. it takes 2 people trying to hold things together and many trys to get the holes drilled in the correct position. we were like pretzels twisting and turning---i sure can"t see one person putting this in alone unless they"re a carpenter or such. it was an all afternoon job for us.
i sure hope it lasts as long as my old one cause i"m in no hurry for another installation job!!!!!

sooo disappointed with Black and Decker June 5, 2010 Pamela Hanna (Maryland) This is our 4th B&D spacemaker. I really like the looks of the new model but after my husband installed it (had to cut down screws to make it fit snugly), we've had nothing but trouble with leaking and overflow. Yes, we read the directions. Yes, we know that the basket has to be carefully pushed in all the way. However, the basket will not stay pushed in; it pops right back out. We want to send it back but unfortunately, we recycled the box. Does Black & Decker really care about all of the reviews that indicate we are unhappy?
