I got this book "free" at Michaels for the first class (you purchase the kit and they give you this during the first class). It is very colorful, detailed, with lots of little hints. It does list other products that may be "helpful" but aren't necessary, so just be careful going out and buying every Wilton product under the sun. I wasn't real happy that some of the products (like the cake leveler and turntable and cake boards) were suggested for the first classes (I don't even recall them being listed as "optional") because you don't HAVE to have them (though the turntable and boards are helpful...leveler, not so much...read reviews on it).

This was just what I was looking for! The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 is that it should say that to get full use of this book you need the student kit to go with it, or better yet just take the class. But even so it has very clear instructions and you can find the things you need to do every thing it teaches at your near by craft store (as long as they have a cake department) I had all the stuff already (a gift from my husband) I just need the book to show me what to do with it.

This product was in the DVD section and when I received, it turned out to be a book. This makes it very difficult to show to my 8th grade students to help them understand cake decorating. I did not return it because it would have cost as much to ship it back as it cost.
